Beat that Summertime Sadness!

ReSheeda and I volunteered our services to the runners of the Narragansett Summer Running Festival that took place on July 16 and 17. It was such a great time! There were so many people participating in such a hot-weathered event and we were thrilled to be able to help everyone relax and calm down. We hope everyone enjoyed their mini massage and Reiki sessions!
There's another road race coming up next month! On Saturday, August 20 is the Hip Hop 5K/10K taking place at Oliver Ames High School in Easton. This race supports Hip Dysplasia awareness and fundraising. We will be there providing our services to the runners and walkers. We hope you will be a part of this amazing event!

Massage Those Blues Away!
It helps Heal Depression and Anxiety!

For any and all reasons people can and will become depressed or consistently anxious in their lifetime. It is what it is. And lots of those people will take medication for it. Hey, if you need to, go for it! But there is an alternative.

Massage is best known as a way to relax. We can all agree on that. In a study conducted by the Touch Research Institute at the University of Miami School of Medicine, they "conclude that massage therapy relieves depression and anxiety by affecting the body's biochemistry. In a series of studies including about 500 men, women, and children with depression or stress problems, researchers measured the stress hormone cortisol in participants before and immediately after massage and found that the therapy lowered levels by up to 53%. (Cortisol can drive up blood pressure and blood sugar levels and suppress the immune system.) Massage also increased serotonin and dopamine, neurotransmitters that help reduce depression."

How freaking cool is that?

I wanted to talk a little bit about that in todays' newsletter because I have been coming across many people who go through life with a gray cloud around them.
