Therapeutic Touch

I have heard about, and many of my clients have asked about, Therapeutic Touch.  According to Wikipedia, Therapeutic Touch (TT) is defined as an energy therapy which practitioners claim promotes healing and reduces pain and anxiety. Therapeutic Touch (trademarked) is a registered trademark in Canada for the "structured and standardized healing practice performed by practitioners trained to be sensitive to the receiver's energy field that surrounds the body; touching is required." Practitioners of therapeutic touch state that by placing their hands on, or near, a patient, they are able to detect and manipulate the patient's energy field.

Dora Kunz, a theosophy promoter and one-time president (1975–1987) of the Theosophical Society in America, and Dolores Krieger, Professor Emerita of Nursing Science, New York University, developed therapeutic touch in the 1970s.  According to Krieger, therapeutic touch has roots in ancient healing practices, such as the laying on of hands, although it has no connection with religion or with faith healing. Krieger states that, "in the final analysis, it is the healee (client) who heals himself. The healer or therapist, in this view, acts as a human energy support system until the healee's own immunological system is robust enough to take over".

The practice is based on the assumptions that human beings are complex fields of energy, and that the ability to enhance healing in another is a natural potential.  Therapeutic Touch (TT) is used to balance and promote the flow of human energy. It is taught in colleges around the world and has a substantial base of formal and clinical research. This research has shown that TT is useful in reducing pain, improving wound healing, aiding relaxation, and easing the dying process. It can be learned by anyone with a sincere interest and motivation towards helping others.

Well, then I must be a natural TT practitioner, because I have been using energy work when massaging my clients.  It sounds extremely similar to Reiki, as well as Angel Therapy.  I actually don't feel there's much of a difference between any forms of energy work at all.  We, humans, act as conductors.  And we are surrounded by energy; everything has energy, it's not just the atmosphere around you at any given time.  And we are able to work with energy and conduct it; we can help transfer better energy onto another thing -- person, place, object -- in order to change its frequency.  In doing so (especially onto another living being), the results are literally life changing.  As long as your intentions are positive, the change will be positive.  So, I definitely support Therapeutic Touch, Reiki, Angel Therapy, and every other form of energy work out there.  As long as you're doing it and receiving it in a positive manner, everyone will be better for it.
